Cannibal Flower was held at spaces throughout Los Angeles’ venues showcasing unsigned artists trying to make it in a complex art world. L.C. created a brilliant atmosphere, which were more funky and off-kilter than traditional galleries, in-turn artists were made to feel they could hone their unique creative voice.
It has evolved over the past 20 years, but its commitment to mentoring artists and aiding career growth has never wavered through its incarnation and transition into portfolio reviews and art shows at Art Bar LA. The 2016 Ghost Ship Warehouse Fire in Oakland, California (resulting in 36 deaths) sent ripple effects to warehouse parties in LA, raising fees, resulting in an unsustainable business model. At Art Bar LA, LC could hold art shows, and not charge artists fees because of alcohol sales. At Art Bar LA many events are held which build community & inclusion, such as Drink & Draws hosted by the Gallery Girls.
